DRAWING
Beginning Drawing
This beginning drawing course is on perception, learning to see subjects and objects in space and translating the surrounding reality with line and shading. Exercises and assignments focus on volume, perspective, proportion and composition as a way to translate what is seen onto the two- dimensional surface.

Intermediate Drawing
A continued examination and development of drawing skills. This course utilizes visual tools gathered during beginning drawing and other sources, developing compositional concepts and volume. A real understanding of figure and ground is imparted.

Advanced Drawing
This course focuses on expanding the notion of drawing through confrontation with personal and new ideas, concepts, materials, and techniques.

PAINTING
Beginning Painting
An introduction to the material and subject possibilities of painting with an emphasis on construction, paint handling and color. Exercises progress from simple too more complex and prepare students for future painting courses.

Intermediate Painting
This course provides deeper understanding of ideas and personal vision will be encouraged through a series of larger works that require greater time and skill. Experimentation in different painting media, including acrylic, oil, watercolor and mixed media will be encouraged.

Advanced Painting
The focus of this class is to clarify the advanced students experience in making paintings and offers the opportunity to work with a singular focus in a particular area of studio practice.

PRINTMAKING
Beginning Etching
A beginning level course for those students with limited or no experience. It will introduce basic etching procedures and provides a solid foundation, both technical and conceptual so that personal ideas and imagery may be pursed more in depth at the upper level classes.

Intermediate Etching
While continuing to master the technical process of etching, students will be encouraged to develop personal ideas and images. Demonstrations will explore further technical possibilities including multiple plate color etching and non-standard techniques.

Advanced Etching
While refining the technical process of etching, concept and image will always be considered throughout the course. There will be continued demonstrations and the use of non-standard techniques. Students are expected to work independently, define their own projects, realize goals they have established.

Beginning Lithography
This course is an introduction to the basic processes and techniques of lithography. It will introduce ideas, materials and fundamental techniques of drawing and painting on and from lithographic stones primarily in black and white.

Intermediate Lithography
This Intermediate level class will have a particular emphasis on multi color printing and special processes including photo reproduction. Development of technical and conceptual skills will continue with the goal of developing an individual approach to a full integration of ideas, materials and processes

Advanced Lithography
In this advanced level course students will individually determine the subjective and visual content of their work based on sources including ideas, materials and perception. Traditional as well as cutting edge and cross- disciplinary approaches to Lithography are supported.

Introduction to Letterpress
By means of traditional hand typesetting students experience the sequential nature of the printed page. Through a number of printing/ publishing experiments and projects students gain an understanding of the history of printing type, book formats, fundamental terminology; and become familiar with the Albion letterpress and other related equipment.

BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY
Beginning Black and White Photography
Students will also learn technical aspects of exposure, developing and printing in the darkroom as they explore and respond to the visual qualities of the medium. Students must provide their own 35mm camera with manual controls.

Intermediate Black and White Photography
Students will learn more advanced technical skills than those covered in beginning photo. Emphasis is placed on expanding and refining technical control and visual communication skills.
Students must provide their own camera.

Advanced Black and White Photography
Each student has the opportunity to begin to personalize his or her work through a self-directed investigation of ideas through image making. It may be organized around a specific photographic genre or studio practice. Students must provide their own camera.

Pinhole and Alternative Cameras
The class will begin with with constructing pinhole cameras and then move onto experimenting with a variety of toy and plastic cameras. The class will create work that brings a spontaneity and unpredictability not found in todays precision made image making devices.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Beginning Digital Photography
Students will learn the basics of image capture through a digital camera and film scanning.Beginning level instruction with image editing software and output.

Intermediate Digital Photography
Students will have a basic understanding of digital photography principles and technology and are comfortable using a digital camera along with basic computer and image editing skills. Students will have individual instruction to bring technical skills and aesthetics to the next level.

Advanced Digital Photography
This is an advanced level class with time divided between on-site shooting and processing work in the studio. Students will have the opportunity to to create a portfolio of work made in Italy.
